Introduction

The Hong Kong Brain Bee Competition 2018, organized by the Hong Kong Brain Foundation, aims to motivate high school students to acquire knowledge about the brain, and inspire them to develop insights on its application in medicine, education, daily living and technology.  The format of the competition takes reference from the International Brain Bee Competition (IBB).  Students in the competition were assessed on their basic understanding of the brain and the nervous system, together with dysfunctions associated with its development, diseases and drug abuse.  On April 21, we held the elementary contest where student participants attended the opening and keynote lectures followed by a written test.  The top five students then attended the “Meeting with Professors” tuition programmes led by professors in neuroscience and clinical neurology in May.  In the Final Contest on May 25, the five student finalists were challenged further on their knowledge about neuroscience and clinical neurology in front of the panel of judges.  The champion and runners-up were identified.  The champion would be nominated to represent Hong Kong in IBB 2018 in Berlin, Germany.
 
前言

2018年度香港Brain Bee腦神經科學大賽，是由香港腦科基金會舉辦的教育活動，目的是鼓勵中學生探索神經科學的知識寶庫 ，誘導他們思考這門科學在醫學、教育、生活、科技等範疇的應用和潛在發展。比賽參考了國際Brain Bee腦神經科學大賽 (International Brain Bee Competition, 簡稱IBB) 的模式，學生會被問及對人類大腦和神經系統，還有因發育、疾病及濫用藥物引致的神經功能障礙的基本知識。參賽學生在4月21日出席兩個專題演講，隨後進行筆試初賽。前五名成績優秀的學生在5月參加由腦神經科學家、教授和醫學專家主領的輔導暨教育活動。5月25日口試決賽，進一步挑戰五名同學對腦神經科學及臨床腦神經病學的認識。四位腦神經科專家評判仔細評核同學對答內容，選出冠、亞、季軍、第四和第五名。 冠軍學生可獲提名參加在德國柏林舉行的 IBB 2018大賽。
